What each visit actually includes

Every visit on the route is the same job, done the same way: surface and skimmer baskets skimmed, walls and waterline brushed, floor vacuumed, filter backwashed when it needs it rather than by the clock, and the weir and pump baskets emptied and checked.

Then the water is tested and dosed: pH and chlorine read, corrected for what the water is carrying that week, and the reading written on the dosing sheet before we leave. Filter pressure gets noted too, because a pressure reading that creeps visit after visit is the earliest warning a filter gives before it stops doing its job.

Weekly, fortnightly or monthly: how often a pool needs a visit

Visit frequency depends on bather load, weather, tree cover, filtration and the water-test results. Weekly or fortnightly schedules may suit different pools; monitoring between visits remains necessary.

Choose the visit interval is by what the water actually does between visits. If the readings are already off by the second week, the pool is telling you it needs the shorter interval, and we would recommend fortnightly visits where suitable for a pool that holds itself.

Chemicals: whose bill they land on

Ask the quote to separate the visit charge, included tasks and chemicals. Confirm how additional chemicals are approved and charged before the first visit.

If you already buy your own chemicals, we will dose what you have and tell you when it is running out; owner-supplied or crew-supplied, both work, and you choose before the first visit.

Why the chlorine keeps disappearing

One thing most pool owners learn the hard way: chlorine demand follows the organic load in the water, not the calendar. A storm washes dust, pollen and leaf break-down into the pool; a weekend of heavy swimming loads the water its own way. The chlorine is consumed clearing that load, so a dose that held the water clear all last month can leave the same pool green the week after a big storm.

Water treatment should follow measured readings and the chemical manufacturer's directions. Regular visits reduce the chance of problems going unnoticed, but do not guarantee the water will remain balanced between visits.

What you still do between visits

There is one job we will not take off you, because it is a one-minute job and it needs doing daily: empty the skimmer basket, glance at the water and the pump, and scoop anything big off the surface. We explain it once at the start of the contract. Everything else (the brushing, vacuuming, backwashing, testing and dosing) is the route crew’s job, not yours.

If leaf fall around the pool is what keeps the baskets full, that is a garden problem, not a pool problem. Our garden services crew keeps the trees and beds around the pool cut back, which cuts what lands in the water, and that usually means fewer chemicals needed after that too.

Winter and storm season

Winter can change the maintenance schedule, but water testing and equipment checks still matter. Adjust the schedule to actual readings and use rather than assuming all pools need the same interval.

Storm season is the other edge. Every big thunderstorm washes the garden into the pool: dust, pollen, grass clippings off the paving. After a storm week, expect the chlorine demand to jump, and expect us to dose for it instead of being surprised by a green pool two weeks later.

Green pool recovery

A green pool needs a recovery assessment rather than a routine maintenance visit. The guide separates once-off recovery from monthly maintenance. Water condition, filtration faults and repeat visits determine the scope; draining or acid washing requires a separate assessment.

Green water needs a diagnosis of water balance, filtration and circulation before choosing a recovery treatment. Get a recovery scope and any follow-up visits priced separately from routine maintenance.

Agree the maintenance terms

Agree the visit frequency, payment terms, cancellation notice and access arrangements in writing before starting a maintenance plan.

When a visit is not enough

Routine maintenance does not fix failed equipment. A pump losing prime, a filter fault or unexplained water loss may need pool repairs. Re-marbeliting, relining and resurfacing require a pool-renovation specialist and are outside this service. Agree any repair or referral separately from the maintenance schedule.

What you get on paper

Every visit leaves a written dosing sheet: the water test readings, what was dosed, what was brushed, vacuumed and backwashed, the filter pressure noted, and the leaves skimmed. Once a month you get a short water-balance summary: where the pH and chlorine have been sitting over the month, and anything trending the wrong way. And at the start of the contract, the one-minute daily task above gets explained once, properly, so you are never guessing what is yours to do.

How the job runs

You call or WhatsApp a photo of the pool and we quote from it, guide price before an inspection, and a first look in person when the photo cannot show us the equipment. The first visit sets the route day, the dosing sheet starts that day, and from there the crew arrives on the schedule without you chasing it. Anything found on a visit that needs a decision (a filter pressure trend, a pump that sounds wrong) goes on the sheet and gets a call, not a surprise on the debit order.
