What we fix
The inspection covers the symptoms below. Each needs checks before the repair scope is confirmed:
- Unexplained water loss: a real leak in the pipework, the pump seal or the shell, or plain evaporation. The bucket test below settles which, for free.
- Air collecting under the strainer lid: possible air entry, low water level or a suction-side issue that needs checking before choosing a repair.
- A pump losing prime, running dry or tripping: stop running it and arrange checks of water supply, seals, blockages and electrical components.
- A multivalve set wrong or bypassing to waste: the pool quietly pumping its own water out the back during a normal cycle. It reads as a leak until someone looks at the valve.
- Drips at the pump or filter: seals and o-rings, priced as the small repairs they are.
Evaporation or leak: the bucket test first
A bucket comparison can help distinguish evaporation from unexplained water loss. Compare marked pool and bucket levels over the same period, with rain, topping-up and swimming recorded. A greater pool drop suggests further investigation; it does not locate a leak or rule out every other source of loss.
If the loss is rapid or the pump is drawing air, arrange an inspection rather than waiting for a multi-day comparison. Keep children away from any test setup and follow the equipment instructions.
What pump-on and pump-off observations can show
Changes in water loss with the pump on and off can help an inspection, but they do not conclusively identify a suction-side or return-line leak. Pipework, fittings, shell defects and valve positions can affect the result. Targeted testing is needed before excavation.
The inspection should establish which tests are needed and where access or excavation might be required. Agree those costs and any reinstatement work before digging begins.

Re-marbelite, relining and pool renovations are specialist work (draining the pool, re-screeding the shell and curing the surface properly), and we do not pretend to supervise them. If your pool needs that, we tell you plainly, hand you the diagnosis of what the water is actually doing, and refer you to a renovation crew with that diagnosis in hand. A torn liner is the same answer: it is a relining job, not a repair. A crack in a marbelite or fiberglass shell we price as the repair it is, where sealing it is genuinely the fix.

How the job runs
Send the symptoms, recent water-loss history and a photo of the pump label. The inspection determines the test and repair scope, access requirements and whether the water level must be lowered. Confirm this before draining any water.

Once it holds water again
A pool that has been losing water slowly usually has a maintenance backlog hiding behind it: the pump running more hours than it should, the sand old, the chemicals chasing their tail. Once the pool holds water again, the weekly maintenance visit keeps it that way: regular checks catch the next seal or o-ring while it is still a small repair. And when the “leak” turns out to be water pooling near the shell after rain, that is often the garden side of the property: a downpipe or groundwater dumping water where it shouldn’t sit, which is garden services territory we handle on the same visit.

What does it cost to fix a pool leak?
Leak detection and repair are separate scopes in the guide. The repair depends on whether the fault is a seal, fitting, shell or buried pipe. Confirm what detection includes and any credit against an accepted repair before booking.
How do I know if my pool is leaking or just evaporating?
A bucket comparison can indicate water loss beyond evaporation. Record rain, topping-up and swimming during the comparison. The result does not locate a leak, and rapid loss or a pump drawing air needs an inspection.
Should I repair or replace my pool pump?
Compare the confirmed repair cost with a compatible replacement, taking account of equipment condition, parts availability and the applicable warranty. The quote should explain the fault and both options where repair is viable.
Can you fix the pool with the water still in it?
Yes for pump, filter and pipework repairs; those are done with the pool full. Shell repairs usually need at least a partial drop, and we tell you which case you are in before anything is booked.
Do you re-marbelite or renovate pools?
No. Re-marbelite, relining and renovations are specialist crews: draining, re-screeding and curing a shell is not repair work we pretend to supervise. We diagnose what the water is doing, fix pumps, filters and leaks, and refer you to a renovation crew with our diagnosis in hand.

Before you book
Switch off a pump that runs dry or hums without moving water and arrange an inspection. Blockages, starting components and motor faults can produce similar symptoms; do not open live electrical equipment.
